Computer Graphics Jobs, Computer Animation Jobs

Computer Graphics Jobs: Career Profile of Graphic Design

When Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" earned a Best Picture nomination in the Academy Awards, computer graphic artists working in the motion picture industry finally received the recognition they deserved. Almost a decade and a half later, artists and other creative professionals working in computer graphics jobs and computer animation jobs are still creating vivid images that seamlessly fuse life and art, not just in the movies but also in nearly every field of information technology employment. The convergence of data and visual communication over corporate Intranets and Internet will bring graphic artists into the mainstream of American business and government.

The explosive growth of the Internet and multimedia has left many companies scrambling to find qualified people to fill computer graphics jobs and computer animation jobs. There is the "coolness" factor of working in creative computer jobs. However, this factor alone for the graphic artist has never paid the bills consistently. Now the need for sophisticated computer graphics, to accompany sophisticated business applications, has raised the career profile of graphic design. Macromedia designer jobs now command as much respect and remuneration do other computer tech jobs.

An increasing number of graphic designers are developing material for Internet Web pages, computer interfaces, and multimedia projects. Graphic designers plan, analyze, and create visual solutions to communications problems. They use a variety of print, electronic, and film media and technologies to execute a design that meet clients' communication needs. They consider cognitive, cultural, physical, and social factors in planning and executing designs appropriate for a given context. In addition graphic designers use computer software to develop the overall layout and production design of magazines, newspapers, journals, corporate reports, and other publications. They also produce promotional displays and marketing brochures for products and services, design distinctive logos for products and businesses, and develop signs and signage systems-called environmental graphics-for business and government. Graphic designers also produce the credits that appear before and after television programs and movies.

Qualifications for Computer Graphics Jobs

Computer graphics jobs are about creating artwork that communicates a message visually. Producing eye-catching, compelling, organized images that convey information effectively requires a mind that is creative, logical, and analytical-all at the same time. These skills are acquired and harnessed through study and practice, which is why most professionals who work in computer graphics jobs hold bachelor's degrees in art or design.

Computer graphic artists usually supplement their formal art education with courses in computer graphics, computer animation, and Web and electronic publishing design. Getting computer graphics jobs is also possible for people with no formal degree in art or design, as long as they have demonstrable artistic and computer graphics skills and adequate experience.

Computer animation jobs and Macromedia designer jobs involve their own type of coding, unique to the graphic design and animation software. Like programming jobs, individuals who wish to work in these fields must know how to write, test, troubleshoot, and maintain scripts and codes to test their work. As with other computer jobs, computer graphics jobs involve a lot of collaboration with other people involved in the project, as well as constant communication with the client. Computer graphic artists must have good communication, team working, and interpersonal skills to be able to handle the responsibilities of computer graphics jobs.

Computer animation jobs

Information technology employment trends indicate that computer animation jobs are growing at almost the same pace as computer tech jobs. The increase in computer animation jobs is partly a result of expanding applications of computer animation. Computer animation jobs can be found in motion pictures, television, advertising, video games, CD-ROMs, and the Web-practically in any field where the medium is as important as the message.

Computer animation jobs
require more specialized skills and training than do general computer animation jobs. Skills and experience in computer graphics, vector illustration, 3D animation, 3D modeling, computer rendering, and electronic and Web publishing are indispensable to workers in computer animation jobs. IT professionals in computer animation jobs should also be proficient in the use of Macromedia Flash, DreamWeaver, Director, Maya, 3D Studio Max, PowerAnimator, Softimage, Lightwave, and other computer animation programs.

Macromedia Designer Jobs

Macromedia Designer Jobs are computer graphics jobs held by people who specialize in the use of the Macromedia suite of graphics applications. Macromedia designer jobs generally involve developing and creating animation for the Web, advertising, games, and CD-ROMs. Macromedia Flash is currently the most widely used application for developing Web-integrated animation, and this has created a niche for Macromedia designers. Although Macromedia Designer Jobs emphasize the use of Macromedia products such as Flash, DreamWeaver, Director, Studio MX, FreeHand, and FlashPaper, knowledge of other computer animation and graphics programs is also necessary in this field.

Contract and Permanent Computer Graphics Jobs

The opportunity to work contract, contract to permanent, or permanent exists for computer graphics artists and computer animators. While some computer graphic artists choose to work as part of a company's creative department, others choose to work on a freelance and or contract basis. There are opportunities for computer graphic artists to be hired by IT service providers, staffing firms and outsourcers.

Outsourcers offer their services to companies and government agencies to design and maintain websites. They bring their expertise as IT providers to the table. These outsourcers hire and employ computer graphics artists and computer animators as part of their team to perform the work for their clients. Computer graphics artists and computer animators should seek work with outsourcers; staffing firms and IT service providers who have the clients. The opportunity to work permanent for an outsourcer, and contract for many clients for Telecommuting, or working at home, becomes available for computer graphics artists and computer animators. If you are a computer graphic artist or computer animator, finding contract or contract-to-permanent employment is easy once you have the right contacts. Employers will often ask that you start on a project and work at full pay on a trial basis. If they like your work, they will bring you on board full time.

By expanding your contacts and building your network of companies, you will win.
